Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawi, Head of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), recently met with Dr. Abu Al-Fotouh Al-Tawil, Chairman and Managing Director of the Egyptian Pharmaceutical Trading Company (EPTC), to explore ways to deepen their collaboration.

The discussions centered on enhancing the distribution system for vital medicines via EPTC’s wide-reaching network of pharmacies and outlets nationwide, with the joint effort intended to guarantee a steady and fair availability of medications for all Egyptians.

The Egyptian Drug Authority and the Egyptian Pharmaceutical Trading Company have intensified their cooperation to ensure the steady supply of medicines across Egypt, following improvements in the country’s pharmaceutical market after significant shortages in 2024.

Dr. Al-Ghamrawi emphasized that “this partnership is pivotal for achieving public health objectives.” He highlighted the EDA’s commitment to facilitating the availability of safe and effective medicines, streamlining regulatory processes, and supporting market stability, while adhering to international quality and safety standards. He also noted that “ongoing coordination with strategic partners enhances public confidence in domestically produced pharmaceuticals and supports the national industry.”

Dr. Al-Tawil expressed his “deep appreciation for the EDA’s efforts in regulating and overseeing the pharmaceutical market.” He affirmed that “the close collaboration with the EDA enhances EPTC’s capabilities in supply chain management and distribution, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of medicines nationwide.” He also reiterated the company’s commitment to transparency and providing technical and scientific support to advance the national healthcare system.

Additionally, the two leaders discussed the establishment of a scientific office within EPTC, which will serve as a platform for research and studies related to pharmaceutical products, promoting transparency in information dissemination

The meeting was attended by key officials from both organizations, including Dr. Osama Hatem, EDA Assistant Head for Policies and International Cooperation; Dr. Midhat Fadi, Head of the Central Administration for Licensing Pharmaceutical Institutions; Dr. Hossam Abdullah, EDA Assistant Head for Market Support and Monitoring; and Dr. Walid Saada, CEO of EPTC’s Supply Chains.

This collaboration is part of a series of initiatives by the EDA to engage with various stakeholders in the pharmaceutical sector, aiming to enhance the healthcare system and support the national industry, ultimately benefiting the Egyptian citizen and safeguarding public health.
